Ear Piercing And The Facts You Need To Know

You may have gone as a kid to the local store, sat on top of a box of say henckels knife set and waited as some random person came up to you with a weird looking gun type thing in their hand. No? Well you’d be one of the lucky ones then, what I am getting at is the way ears used to be and sadly still are getting pierced. And this will not be a discussion on age limits or parenting.

Yeah it hurt and I remember it quite clearly. I also remember how hard they were to look after and its not because I didn’t try it was because this method of using guns is simply barbaric. Most piercers and their clients will agree that guns simply need to be banned.

The larger companies out there might say they are safe but that will really come with a very large disclaimer and anyone complaining afterwards will be told it was probably their own fault for not cleaning or using their after care suggestions, this is simply nonsense. The guns cannot be fully cleaned and can quite easily hold bacteria and diseases even potentially fatal ones.

If you ever decide to go to a proper piercer then you will tell the different, the place will be spotless, you will see bio hazard waste bins and proper equipment, you’ll also notice the needle used is hardly noticeable and little force is used to make a tiny crescent shaped hole in the ear. Guns however fire a piece of unsuitable jewellery into the ear that’s also not sterile with many kids and adults alike ending up having to go to their doctors or to A&E or turn to the knife block set to ping off the embedded back off the stud!

But the sad thing is that many people including parents will think that because guns are used that it means they are totally safe and clean. Remember too that the person wielding the bacteria laden gun probably got about 20 minutes training on a cardboard ‘ear’ before being set loose on kids as young as 3 years old.

So what is the alternative? How about a properly licensed and regulated body piercer? Okay they may charge more but that’s because they will have had training on things such as blood borne pathogens, have fully autoclaved sterilization procedures (no nothing is boiled in a countertop microwave ), the correct jewellery tailored for the individual etc.

The extra few bucks you pay to go to a piercing will mean that you will have a good half an hour spent on you and you alone, you’ll be talked through the process, correct jewellery just for you will be selected that will not irritate you, after care will be fully explained and you will have the chance to pop back in for a check up too! Don’t get that in stores now do you?
