Nikko Stirling Nighteater Rifles Scopes Reviewed And Where To Get A Bargain Buy
Is The Nikko Stirling Platinum Nighteater The Perfect Rifle Scope For You?
If you’re in the market for a high quality rifle scope at a very good price then one well worth having a look at is the Nikko Stirling Platinum Nighteater range. It is as at home on a springer air rifle as on a centerfire rifle and, depending on model can suit a wide range of hunting or target shooting needs.
In this article I am going to specifically look at the Nikko Stirling Nighteater 4-16×44 1 inch model (mil dot) and show you how to get a good deal on one immediately after you finish reading.
Nikko Stirling Nighteater 4-16×44 Review
If you don’t know what those numbers mean incidentally then I’ll briefly explain.
4-16 means the range of magnification levels the scope has. In this case 4-16 means that it can magnify anywhere from 4x to 16x. You d this simply by hand turning a dial on the scope body to change the level of magnification.
On the Nikko the 4-16 variable is nice and wide and will suit you for shooting any where from about 8 yards to, well, a lot further than the majority of us or our rifles can shoot anyway!
Some cheap rifles scopes with large magnification options offer less than ideal image clarify in their higher ranges due to the use of cheaper, lower grade optical lenses. However, this is not a worry with the Nikko Platinums’ for reasons explained below.
Nikko Lenses
The Nikko Stirling Rifles Scopes lenses are grade A, fully, multi coated for total protection and maximum light transmission and made in Japan so you can be sure you will get crystal clear vision. No low grade lens vision problems at high magnification.
As one user comments “The scope is VERY clear and lets in plenty of light even when zoomed in all to way”.
So, as noted above, there is no problem as with cheaper scopes with clarity of vision even at the maximum zoom.
The 44 part of 4-16×44 means the size, in millimetres, of the large end of the scope that gathers the light, this lens is called the Objective.
As a rough rule the bigger the better in terms of light capture, transmission and ability to acquire and track a moving target.
More and better light transmission is better for low light shooting too meaning you can operate better at dawn and dusk. This might be essential for you as many species tend to move most at dawn and dusk.
44mm is considered an excellent medium to large size lens, well suited for low light use. When combined with 4-16x magnification you will get the ability to operate dawn to dusk at 8 to 800 yards.
Parallax Adjustment
The Nikko 4-16×44 also comes with parallax adjustment by way of an easy to use side-wheel. The parallax effect, if you’ve not heard of this before, is what happens when targets seem to drift or wobble against the background which makes accurate shooting difficult.
Parallax adjustment solves this by eliminating the wobble meaning you will shoot a lot better. The Nikko has a range of distance settings from 10 metres upward and is very easy to adjust.
Zeroing
Easy to use finger click windage and elevation turrets.
Style
Physically, it looks the business. It’s what’s known as a full size scope so not one for juniors or small carbine rifles. Is very well packed and presented and also features quality flip up caps to protect the lenses.
