Three Quality AR-15 Receivers
With AR-15 home building reaching unprecedented levels, there are now more manufacturers than ever supplying component parts. A good upper receiver is the basis for accuracy and reliablity so it is not surprising that shooters invest heavily in this component.
VLTOR have made a name for themselves supplying top-end AR-15 rifles and components. They don#t cut any corners in design or manufacture. The MUR upper receiver is machined from a forging of heat treated, cryogenically stress-relieved 7075 T-6 aluminum – some 40% stronger than the 6061 often used by other manufacturers. Thicker receiver walls make for great rigidity required for extreme accuracy. The Mil-Spec hard anodizing is coated with a slick dry lube coating which smooths operation and leads to greater relability and component life. The top of the receiver is configured as a 13 slot Picatinny rail. This receiver comes in two versions. The MUR-1 comes with a brass deflector and the MUR-1A is equipped with both a brass deflector and a forward assist. Both versions come with the dust cover already fitted.
Building on the acclaim of the MUR series, VLTOR came up with the VLTOR VIS upper. The VIS uses a proprietary welding process to bond a quad rail to the front of an MUR receiver making it completely integral and free-floating. This does away with the problem of forward mounted optics getting out of alignment and having to be re-zeroed. As the bottom easily drops out, you can fit any of a range of accessories up to and including the M203 grenade launcher. Cleaning is rendered easy.
At least ten percent of us are left handed. Left handed target and hunting rifles are ever more common, but, as of now, there are very few manufacturers of left handed military rifles. Stag Arms saw this as a gap in the market and the Stag Arms left handed upper is a genuine mirror image of a mil spec A3 flattop upper. The Stag Arms AR left handed upper is supplied with a mirror imaged bolt carrier which is chromed for long life and ease of cleaning. The only part in the kit that is not a true mirror image is the barrel extension which, instead is ambidextrous. This combination allows the creation of a truly left-handed AR-15 of any configuration.
