Accessories For The Sig 522 Rifle
The SIG 522 has become a very popular tactical twenty two in the short time it has been available. The SIG has a great reputation for accuracy and especially reliability with a wide variety of ammunition – even subsonics. The SIG isn’t useful for training for any rifle other than the SIG platform, but it makes a great plinker and small game hunter.
Aftermarket accessory makers soon zeroed in on the 522 as a great platform to customize. The SIG 522 comes without the factory sights which are quite expensive and do not fold down. Samson Manufacturing filled the void and adapted their superb aluminum folding SIG 556 sights design to come up with their Sig 522 sights. This can be used with any of the many folding rear sights on the markets including the Troy BUIS. Two versions are available. You can have AR style wings or the AK circle within a circle, self centering design. Both employ the M16 sight adjustment tool. The sights lock in the up and down positions so that they can’t lose zero by folding down slightly in use. The sight is designed to prevent dirt ingress.
Samson then took their excellent 556 rail and adapted it to SIG’s 522 offering. This is a big step up from the two short sections of Picatinny rail that SIG offer. The Samson SIG 522 rail is a quad rail machined from 6061 T6 aluminum to the same tolerances as their centerfire quad rails. Installation is easy and only adds 17.7 oz. to the weapon. It results in an uninterrupted top rail all the way from the rear of the receiver to the imitation gas block. The Samson STAR SIG 522′s cooling holes are arguably unnecessary with the .22LR cartridge, but they keep the weight down and add to the authenticity of the system which closely replicates its centerfire stablemates.
