Milkor 40mm Multiple Grenade Launcher.MGL-140
Roles of MGL application
The Milkor MGL-140 may be employed in both the offensive and defensive missions by conventional and non-conventional forces. In its traditional role it can be issued to Infantry forces as a first weapon in the direct- and indirect fire support role.
The pin-point warhead delivery up to 200 meters with a high first time hit probability is achieved with sighting system specifically developed for the MGL-140 which allows for extreme flexibility in mission situations. The high mental impact and shock effect of the extraordinary fire power make the MGL-140 a perfect weapon for Special and other Elite forces, including Police Task Force teams.
The MGL-140 weighs less than a normal assault rifle and is so simple to use within confined spaces during static, and maritime operations. It is ideal for use by quick deployment forces whether employed by land, sea or air.
The MGL-140 may be employed with non-lethal ammo and is therefore ideally acceptable to be used by Police agencies in Crowd Management missions and in Detention or Prison Management where the use of deadly force is unwanted or unwarranted.
Weapon Description
The MGL-140 has a progressively rifled steel barrel, within in a stainless steel frame. The back of the frame swivels to allow direct access to the rotating cylinder magazine. This format has the benefit of that any of the loaded rounds are straight away available to the operator once the weapon is opened and any loaded rounds can be modified according to the mission.
The cylinder is driven by a spring that is rewound by revolving the cylinder during reloading. Cylinder advance and alignment are managed by an inertia operated advance mechanism that is turned on when a round is fired. The advance mechanism may also be operated manually to choose the next round and to advance the cylinder in the event of a misfire. An extractor is fitted to the back of the cylinder to help the expulsion of spent cartridge cases.
The sight is mounted on a NATO-standard rail for quick removal. The battery-operated reflex sight immediately adjusts the brightness of the reticule to compensate for ambient light settings. The grid reticule permits fast aiming point adjustment and range estimation.
As an alternative the MGL-140 may be employed with the Regular Sight. The mechanical sight is a more economical option to be used for closer targets.
The telescopic stock is of a very light construction and an integral recoil pad keeps it user friendly. The stock has 2 positions : the open position extends the butt backwards. For storage, transport, and use in enclosed spaces, the stock can be closed to shorten the weapon by 80mm. The stock also has two vertical positions that can be selected to permit simpler high elevation shots.
