Micro AR15 Mounts
The Aimpoint Micro red dot sight has taken the world by storm. The Aimpoint Micro’s extreme lightness (3.7 ounces with the thumbscrew secured Picatinny mount supplied) makes it suitable even for 9mm autos. The NV capable Aimpoint T-1 is already in action in Afghanistan where it is used in conjunction with Aimpoint’s 3x magnifier.
Users immediately wanted to mount the Aimpoint Micro on a wide variety of weapons in many different configurations – this need was soon met by Aimpoint and a number of reputable US manufacturers. The AR15 is far and away the most popular platform for the Aimpoint Micro series red dot sights.
Aimpoint obviously wanted to have a comprehensive range of mounts in place for the Aimpoint T1 micro right from the start. The mount that comes as standard with the Micro uses a thumb nut to attach the sight firmly to any MIL STD 1913 rail. The manufacturer offers an Aimpoint Micro Quick Release Kit to switch the standard mount included with the sight to quick release configuration. This is an all steel unit which neatly replaces the thumb nut. US and European rimfires are catered for with an aluminium replacement base that slides on to a 3/8″ or 11mm dovetail. Aimpoint had Texas based LaRue Tactical make the Aimpoint LT660 mount which incorporates their patented locking quick release lever mechanism and puts the red dot just above the flat top M16′s front sight post Co-witnessing of other back up iron sights in the bottom third of the rear lens is possible with the LT660.
The Daniel Defense Micro mount instead offers a non quick release Aimpoint Micro Mount. Two large slot headed machine screws clamp the Daniel Defense Micro Mount to the Picatinny rail. These go into stainless inserts to secure them against recoil and vibration. This reversible, snag free mount offers a tunnel to allow the use of lower sight line back up sights in a unit that only weighs 1.8 ounces.
The GG&G Accucam Aimpoint Micro Mount, another quality American made product, again puts the T1 at the optimum height for co-witnessing and uses their patented Accucam adjustable lever operated clamping mechanism that adapts even to worn or non spec rails. Flip up lens covers are included to keep dirt and rain off your precious lenses.
A low profile quick detach mounting option is the American Defense Micro Mount or AD-T1-L. This replaces the standard mount, bolting onto it with four high strength steel torx screws the sight very low – from the bottom of the rail to the point where the sight touches the mount is only .31 inches or 7.8mm.
