How to Make Great Pancakes?

People over generations have loved pancakes and several different variations of the traditional pancake have been created. But, cooking a great pancake is not a simple job. Most people try and fail several times before they get to their perfect pancake. And every time it is very essential that you be very careful to go through the proper steps so that your pancake comes out deliciously.

The simple secret to have a well cooked pancake is to butter the crepe pan well and using the hot grill to cook your pancake. You can use a pancake crepe pan or a grill to prepare the pancake. The first step to make sure that the griddle is hot enough. You can check the right heat for your pan by sprinkling a few drops of water onto the hot pan. If the water forms into beads and bounces on the pan, then you can be assured that the pancake pan is hot enough and ready for your pancake preparation.

The next step is to butter the pan. Oil, margarine or any other fat can be used to one’s choice, but it is best recommended to use good quality butter. There are people who even go to the extremities of using bacon grease to get the country side taste, but this is the least recommended. Now, that the pan is hot and buttered, its time to take out the batter.

Pouring the batter is a very skilled process and must be done very carefully. Use a bowl with a pour sprout so that the batter falls in evenly. Never break the pouring process in between as it will lead to uneven browning of the pancake. Stop only when the pancake is of your required diameter, recommended to stop at 4 inch diameter. Now leave the batter on for some time undisturbed on the pan.

When the top portion of the pancake begins to bubble, wait for a little while and flip over the pancake. If you turn over the pancake before it is cooked well, you get uncooked pancakes which can be disposed away. Flipping the pancake is the best way to turn it over. You can use a wide paddled stainless steel spatula which can give you the support to flip over, but do not pick up and turn the pancake with the spatula, as it will cause the pancake to break apart.

Cook the other side till golden brown and you can now enjoy your tasty pancake with your favorite toppings.
