Magpul’s Precision Sniper Stocks For The FAL, G3 And AR
The Magpul PRS stock brings target rifle style adjustment to the AR series of rifles. Its immense strength has lead to extensive use by US forces. The machined aluminium adjustment knobs rotate phosphated alloy steel shafts. The LOP can be shortened by 0.25″ or lengthened by 0.75″ compared to a standard A2 fixed stock. A full 0.75″ of comb height and 0.65″ of cheek-weld adjustment are possible. A positive locking detent mechanism prevents the 0.026″ click adjustments from moving inadvertently. The buttplate is reinforced and is cleared for use on 0.50″ BMG rifles. Slippage is prevented by a soft rubber butt plate, a longer enhanced version of which can be purchased. Sling fitting is via a 1.25″ sling loop which can be swapped from side to side as required. A QD swivel mount is included in the middle of the stock and takes most push button swivels – it too can be reversed. The Magpul PRS stock has improved from previous versions in having a cover at the bottom that slips off to reveal a Picatinny accessory rail which can be used to attach a monopod or sling swivel. Four color variants of the AR version of the stock are available to suit different theatres of operation or personal taste. The stock attaches to the rifle’s receiver extension tube without the A2 spacer which is not included with the stock. The .308 ARs need a specific version with sufficient charging handle clearance. The .308 version is only available in black. If you want to put an existing AR-15 version on a .308 Magpul will sell you the necessary parts to convert it.
Magpul wanted to extend the benefits of the PRS stock beyond the Stoner system rifles. The FN FAL and G3 were obvious candidates. The FAL version only fits metric pattern, fixed stock with standard spring guide tube only and will not fit metric paratrooper folding stock or inch pattern FALs. It differs from the PRS slightly in not having the bottom Picatinny rail. As with the PRS the Magpul FAL stock offers the feel of a precision target rifle stock in a unit which can withstand the rigors of protracted military operations. The Magpul FAL stock has approximately the same LOP as the factory FAL stock which can be extended by 1.25″. It can also help cure the nose heaviness of the FAL. Another difference from the PRS is that the sling loop is vertical at the back near the butt plate in a similar position to that of a G3 rifle.
The G3 version is identical to the FAL one except for an interface to fit the pressed steel HK rifles. The stock can improve balance of HK rifles fitted with front mounted accessories or heavy barrels. The HK-91, HK-93, HK-33, PTR-91 and SL-9 rifles are also suitable for this stock. With some gunsmithing it can also fit the CETME. The Magpul G3 stock does not work with the HK heavy buffer. The PRS2 also has a lenghtened rubber buttpad available specific to this model.
