Avoiding The Obvious Job Hunting Mistakes
There are several common mistakes that are made by those looking for a new job. These mistakes can so easily be avoided according to HR managers and recruitment specialists. Before you apply for your next job make sure you’re not about to make one of these obvious mistakes.
Ensure any requirements stipulated in the ad are met. If the job calls for a minimum of two years experience and you only have one years experience you’re just wasting the recruiters time. You also need to make sure you have the right experience. If you’re applying for a marketing recruitment role that asks for two years experience you need to make sure you have two years marketing experience.
Make sure you put the effort into your job search. A standard CV and cover letter will look too generic the second it’s read. Each cover letter you send needs to explain why you’re perfect for that role and that company. If you’ve used an online recruitment agency there’s no excuse for not using the internet to do a bit more research. You need to state what you can bring to the organisation and where you would fit in without sounding too generic.
Another key area that people often slip up on is presentation. Jean and trainers are not interview clothes and you should chose your interview clothes carefully. Presentation does not just include the clothes you’re wearing. You need to consider the presentation of your CV too. If you don’t feel your CV is up to scratch get some CV advice. Check for things like having a sensible email address rather than the one you had in high school.
These are some of the more obvious mistakes many people make when looking for a new job. By avoiding these slip ups you’ve already made sure your applications stands out from the other that have already made them.
