SOCOM 16 Upgrades
The M14 rifle has a strong following as the best battle rifle of all time and spawned the popular M1A and SOCOM 16 civilian counterparts. Despite the Clinton regime’s efforts to to have US Military M14 stocks cut up in the 1990s, this remarkable rifle is arguably seeing more service than it ever did. Customers are purchasing more M1As than ever and adding new capabilities that transform it as a combat weapon.
Muzzle attachments have come a long way since the simple flash hider. The Smith Enterprise M1A SOCOM 16 kit enables you to swap between a highly effective Vortex flash hider and an equally efficient muzzle compensator. Your night vision is protected by the curved slots which enable the flash hider to burn propellant that would otherwise have burned outside the muzzle creating flash. The muzzle compensator uses side facing pots, also in a slanted array, to suppress muzzle climb. A gas block replaces the original and is threaded to allow quick exchange of the two attachments. Fitting the gas block is best done with a special gas block wrench. The replacement gas block puts the foresight at the same height as the issue unit and you can use your USGI front sight or a more modern unit like the Smith Enterprise tritium. The flash suppressor and compensator are CNC machined from 8620 bar stock and heat treated to give a hard outer surface and a tough inner core. The gas block is made out of 1144 stressproof steel for the longest possible life. The whole unit is then parkerized matte black.
The Amega Ranges M1A Scout Mount is a drop-in alternative for the issue handgoard that bolts securely to US Army spec. M14 and M1A rifle barrels providing a length of MIL STD 1913 Picatinny rail on which you can mount intermediate eye-relief ‘scout’ scopes, red dot and holographic sights. The vibration dampening effect of the mount often results in significant increases in accuracy. You can use the USGI open sights with this unit installed and it acts as a heat sink, absorbing and dissipating heat from the barrel. You can also mount a flashlight kit that enables the addition of various lengths of Picatinny or Weaver rail at 45 degrees for the mounting of small torches, lasers and red dot back-up sights. This is a very well engineered US Made unit which will enhance the appearance of your M1A SOCOM 16 rifle.
Troy industries have built up a great reputation for their range of rail interface systems and back up iron sights. However, they have put a great deal of effort into revolutionizing the performance of the M14 rifle and it’s M1A and SOCOM 16 derivatives. The Troy M14 MCS or M14/M1A Modular Chassis System is a two part unit with tunable bedding system that puts the butt slightly above the line of the bore. This literally stops the muzzle from climbing. If you want to fit a compensator go ahead, if nothing else it will look suitably martial, but it will do little esle. The lack of muzzle climb makes the M14 astonishingly controllable with very rapid follow-up shots. Rails are fitted at all four points of the compass for unrivalled flexibility. Unlike other commercially available M1A chassis, it offers a single unbroken length of rail at a uniform height making co-witnessing easy. The Troy MCS takes any AR15 stock or pistol grip and will fit any M14, M1A or SOCOM 16 rifle regardless of barrel contour. This chassis system gives the M14 vastly superior M16 ergonomics.
