How to clean wool! I don’t want it to turn out baaaaad!?
I was given a wool coat from the church thrift shop and it does not have any tags that tells how to clean it.I have never owned a wool coat before so I am unsure of the proper way to clean it and was told to different ways. Dry cleaning was one.The other was just throw it in the washer and dryer like other safe washable garments. Which is the right instructions and why. Would washing ruin the texture or drying it ruin the texture and fabric? Appreciate experienced please. Thanks…
To avoid a baaaaad result, if I were ewe, I’d hand wash the coat in the bath at a lukewarm temperature.
I would lift the coat repeatedly in and out from the water to remove the dirt.
If you are prepared to risk it in your Washer the look for a cycle that allows you to keep the temperature to 30c or cooler has a gentle agitation cycle and no spin. However, some woollens will still not like that cycle!
You need to consider how you will let it dry. You can place a bar of some sort across your bath and place the coat flat across it.
You can wring it very gently by rolling the coat and applying pressure to get rid of as much water as possible.
Personally I like to use Dreft for such tasks as it appears to be kind to the wool.
Once the coat is no longer dripping you should hang it on a shaped hanger that allows the air to move through the garment and let it dry off very gently.
Dry cleaning is another risky option, unless you trust your dry Cleaner.
