The Magpul MOE Stock
Magpul are renowned for their affordable but well designed and immensely strong AR accessories. Many of these accessories make use of strong, impact and corrosion resistant fiber-reinforced polymer technology, but aluminium and steel are used where their properties are required. One of Magpul’s most popular products is the MOE collapsible stock which has been purchased in immense numbers by sports shooters, security forces and soldiers.
The Magpul MOE stock is their baseline M-4 carbine stock and is intended to present a quality replacement for the original USGI unit. The MOE is supplied in mil-spec and commercial models to suit the different buffer tubes fitted on military and commercial ARs. The stock’s A-frame protects the release catch from accidental actuation. The extra-power lock uses a premium chrome-steel spring to prevent auto-collapse of the stock – the spring is highly resistant to relaxation after long periods of compression. The mil-spec model comes with a 0.30″ rubber butt pad and can take optional 0.55″ and 0.70″ pads. The commercial model is supplied with the 0.55″ to take the larger commercial buffer and can take and optional 0.70″ pad. It is possible that you may run into a rare military buffer tube with an extended slant back, in which case the mil spec stock must be used with the 0.55″ extended butt pad. The standard comb is narrow, yet sloped for compactness and comfort in use. For non AR applications a range of cheekpieces are available that snap-on and raise the comb by 0.25, 0.50 or 0.75 inches to suit operator preference. These are at home on other combat rifles such as Sigs and are often used on bolt action rifles such as the Howa and combat shotguns.
The MOE stock includes two horizontal sling slots in the cheekpiece and similar slots in the vertical butt plate and diagonal cross bar. The toe of the butt includes a loop for para cord slings. Another option is to use a single point or Magpul MS2 single or two piece sling and substitute the end plate of the AR-15′s action with a Magpul ASAP Ambidextrous Sling Attachment Point. This is a rugged cast steel unit with a 1/8″ thick steel sling loop which provides the sling with 180 degrees of uninterrupted movement. This enables the weapon to be rapidly switched from shoulder to shoulder to accommodate a rapidly evolving tactical environment or if one arm is injured. This is particularly handy when shooting over and around cover. The Magpul MOE is available in Black, Dark Earth, OD Green and Foliage green to suit various theatres of operation and operator preference.
