Daniel Defense AR15 Rail Systems
Daniel Defense have made a name for themselves with a range of hand guards for the AR series of rifles, culminating in the RIS II adopted as standard by SOCOM for their SOPMOD II kit. However, Daniel Defense make a range of less highly specified hand guards for the AR. The are all compatible with a plethora of accessories.
The lowest price hand guard is the Daniel Defense EZ CAR 7.0. The numbers in each model designation indicate the length in inches. The EZ car fits the existing delta ring and front sight cap. It is held securely in place by four set screws and requires no special tools to mount.
The Daniel Defense Omega rail is intended for gas piston carbines and rifles and is available in carbine, mid-length and rifle length versions. It fits weapons with the standard front sight tower, clamps to the existing barrel nut and secures in place with four clamping screws tightened with an allen wrench (supplied). The top of the Omega rail can be removed to facilitate adjustment and maintenance of the gas piston. No less than eight manufacturer’s gas piston systems are accommodated. Two receptacles for push button sling swivels are included toward the front of the side rails. The Omega X version replaces the Omega’s mounting system with the bolt-up system of the RIS II series quad rail hand guards.
The Daniel Defense Lite rail is essentially a RIS II without the detachable bottom section to accommodate the M203 grenade launcher, keeping the price down. It has the patented bolt-up mounting system – possibly the most secure on the market. The Lite rail is available in eight versions. The 4.0 is designed for Spikes Tactical or Adams Arms piston systems – all other models are intended for direct impingment actions. The 7.0 is a conventional carbine length quad rail and the 9.0 for mid lenght gas systems. The 9.5 FSP is for carbine length gas systems with an opening for the foresight and the rail coming well forward. The 10.0 is designed for low profile gas blocks on either carbine or mid length AR15s. The baseline 12.0 is a conventional quad rail for rifle length AR15s. The 12.0 FSP is the same but has its side and bottom rails extending forward around the foresight tower. The 12.0 FSPM is a 12.0 with a hole in the top through which the foresight of a mid length AR15 can protrude. The lite rail is more involved to fit, requiring the removal of the barrel and the use of a proprietary barrel wrench.
